Artist Biography

Neida Pearson

Having recently graduated with an MA Fine Arts degree I am now an active member of a group of artists, EDAN (East Durham Artist Network) based at Seaham on the North East Coast. My latest work is created using my study of fabric throughout the ages. The image is not as important as the construction of either my oils on canvas of my pen and ink drawings.

As an artist I am constantly striving to reinvent and look at new ways of combining my chosen elements of colour, pattern and form, to seek out and explore their expressive capabilities.

I have come to realise that, although the subject matter for my paintings is limitless, the main component of my work is the layering of patterns which form the threads that link my work to my interest in 15th and 16th-century art by painters such as Hans Holbein and Lucas Cranach and have led to me looking at fabric through the ages. The Tudor Rose often features in my oil paintings almost like a signature.
